1st Ever Raw Bliss Fest
by Susan and Stacey

This picture is of Stacey and I with Maureen Veto-Slater at the 1ST EVER RAW BLISS FEST IN KANSAS CITY! You talk about throwing a successful event! Maureen would be our pick any day to coordinate hundreds of people coming together for one common RAW cause! (Her Raw Meetup group probably ranks up there with one of the higher memberships of raw foodists in the country with almost 500 members!)So,we arrived to the festival at noon, and as we were walking up this steep hill to Maureen's home (better known as a tree house- beautiful) I realized it is such a blessing and a curse (all at the same time) to have a twin and best friend at your side through everything- think Thelma and Louise!I'm carrying a small purse (packed with both of our things because she doesn't feel like carrying one :)) with hands full of..just stuffffff. sunglasses, and a drink, and she's carrying both our chairs. So, we eventually made it in, and let's be honest, next up on the agenda, where's the food! lol...It's all raw so we're in good hands, right?

Brandon Horak and Jenn from
Superfood Universe

"From raw pizza,
chocolate superfood frosty's,
and raw cashew ice cream
(yep, we had it all)
we were in raw heaven!"

--Susan and Stacey

Stace is the protective one with her food, we actually attempted to share the first frosty, and I just happen to take 2 drinks in a row, and this is what she said... " here's how it works, you take a drink, then I take a drink, you take a drink, then I take a drink" I laughed so hard, because even at 37 some things will never change- we're still splitting everythingggggg! So, what's not to love about events like these and living in the raw lifestyle? Besides amazing health, and the fortunate opportunity to better ourselves continuously, the connections and the new friends we meet at these events are so great. We even connected with a great couple who now grow wheat grass from their home and will be selling us a flat of this healthy, healthy green stuff each week!  This fest had films running so that all who attended would have the opportunity to relax in some cool air conditioning and watch the infamous Raw for 30 Days (Reversing Diabetes). If you have yet to see this click here for more information and/or to watch the trailer! Amazing! Raw for 30 Days If you have friends or family that have this disease, the hope that they will get from this movie is priceless! (Ironically, as I was posting this blog, a dear friend of ours had just written me an email saying her sister had just been diagnosed with Diabetes...so go out and share this information, you never know who needs to hear it today!)How about Food Matters- have you seen this documentary? If not, go now to Food Matters and watch it on line for just a few dollars!! To us, there is only one 'direction' that matters in life and that direction is "in". What's going in your body and what's going in your mind! If you want to get a quick overview that will clearly tell you what's going into your body and mind, just take a look at what is showing up in your life? What does your body look like and feel like!? If your life is working, thank the Universe because you are clearly swimming downstream and your vibrations are working! If you don't like what just came to mind, the beautiful thing is you can change what you eat and you can change what you are putting in your mind, which will thus change how you feel, which will affect your vibrations, and which will then beautifully change your life!  As Esther Hicks says.....How gooooooood is that?  So, as we will ALWAYS be students on this journey, we will, just like you are, keep tending to our own garden and getting out there to connect to soul spirits that are also on this path and connect with our city and then our country and the world! Next up on the agenda for big events right here in Kansas City is the Green Fest- August 23rd and 24th at the Uptown Theater...go to http://www.uptowntheater.com/ to find out more.

From Green Friendly Vendors to Eco-Minded Businesses this is going to be one place to be...

KANSAS CITY MISSOURI'S FIRST RAW BLISS FESTIVAL
by Margo Jakobi
Margo's Blog

I am back from a very busy weekend in in Kansas City, MO. The KC Raw Bliss Festival was everything a 1st time festival should be! The Vibe at Maureen Veto Slater's home and grounds were that of pure Bliss, you could just feel it and see it everywhere. Amazing People with fabulous Raw Foods and or Products where everywhere in the backyard enthusiastically sharing vital information with the Smiling Festival goers. I was assisting Maureen as were many of the wonderful Volunteers like Daniel, Gweneth, Cathy and more- with minor details before and during the festival.I was also helping to snap pictures and as well as taking video footage.I had such fun taping guest clips on some of the truly Super People who worked the festival as either vendors or guest speakers. It is my pleasure to help promote and create even more positive avenues of exposure for the Raw Food movement here in Missouri. There are so many Wonderful and Talented Raw Food Folks who have felt and heard the calling, and are ready to share with others their passion and enthusiasm about Living Foods as well as assist people stepping towards a more full-filling lifestyle through conscious eating and living. All in all I had such a great experience and look forward to the Next Raw Bliss Fest!and by the way, music was Kansas City's own home grown Band SEED LOVE. They Reggae Rocked our way through the festival and were Awesome!Maureen and her Family are Absolutely Fabulous! Graciously Hosting The Event at their home and helping making it all Possible :)

 KC Raw Bliss Fest
by idarastar

This weekend was the first annual Raw Bliss Fest. It was a lot of fun in the most beautiful setting. The highlight of my day was raw pizza! I've never ate anything from a dehydrator before. The crust of the pizza was made from sunflower seeds, onions and some other ingredients I am unsure of.
On top of the crust was a collard green leaf covered in pizza sauce and some kind of cream cheese like stuff. I think it was nuts and spices. I was really amazed with the crust. The onions were just like cooked, sauteed onions but they were just heated at low temperatures. In order for food to be considered raw, it must be below 118 degrees. It seems like cooked to me.

"The highlight of my day...
was raw pizza!"

Seed Love

Chef Natasha who made this wonderful pizza also made some raw cookies and raw chocolate bars that were amazing.

In connection to her was the great band that played there: SeedLove. I've seen them once before in my town. I could tell they had a great vibe about them then I come to find out they are connected to the KC Raw Foods Community was even cooler.
It was pretty awesome to chill in the wooded area with good people, music and food!
There was a lot going on at the festival. A superfood smoothie station was going with maca, cacao, gojiberries, cashews and a lot more from Superfood Universe.
Raw Cashew Ice Cream was even available from the maker of the awesome Playfood. They make great cheese alternatives with cashews. My favorite it Nacheezmo. Look out for her products coming to a store near you. :-)
I wanted to try everything, but I couldn't. There were many people indulging in ice cream, cake, smoothies, tacos and pizza. I honestly don't know how they could pack away all those calories. Just because it's raw and healthy doesn't mean you should over eat. I had a super smoothie before leaving for breakfast (kale, spinach, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, spirulina, apple, dates and celery). Then I ate one piece of pizza and a little chocolate. Later, I ate my mango and apple I brought with me. I guess everyone is different and some take in more fats and protein sources than others. All I wanted was my leafy greens!

All this was part of a Meetup group. There are raw foods meetups in many cities across the US. From what it looks like, the Kansas City one may be the greatest by looking at the attendance of the events. The creator of this group is a pretty cool lady with a raw recovery story that can be read here.

Another cool thing I got out of this event was free tickets to The Schwag show in connection to a Green Festival that will promote health and green things. The Schwag is a Grateful Dead cover band.

All of this in one Saturday Afternoon made for the beginning of a pretty eventful weekend. :-)
